Dear Friends,
I know this has been a rough year for many and my heart goes out to
all the families that have had to deal with all the tragedies of life
I appreciate all the help you have given us in the past years as it has
helped us maintain the sanctuary. Our budget is very small as
nonprofits go, we have no paid staff, and all work is volunteered by
families and friends.
Unfortunately the drought has hit us hard. We had to purchase
the last load of hay from Canada thru a broker in North Carolina.
We are not sure we will have enough hay for the winter, our pastures are
very poor due to the drought and lack of funds to reseed. We have
our hay field that we are considering turning into pasture but that
would entail the cost of fencing which is extremely high. The
horses are doing fine, they have had their winter shots of Eastern,
Western Encephalitis, Tetanus and West Nile. They have been wormed
and the farrier trimmed all their hooves, so they are set for the winter
as long as the hay holds out. If you know anyone with excess horse
hay that they would like to donate, we would love to have it. We
can give them a receipt that is tax deductible. Bear in mind, the
hay you see along the road may not be horse hay. Horse hay must be put
up immediately after rolling to prevent mold. Molded hay makes horses
very sick.
Right now we have one pony( Lucky), 3 burros and eight horses.
We are over our limits but when circumstances are so dire, we can not
always say no. Please help us help the animals. Any amount is
greatly appreciated.
Monetary donations and
volunteered time are what keeps this Sanctuary going. We do not get
any grants, or and other source of funding. Everyone here is
working on a purely volunteer basis, no one gets any payment for what
they do other than the Vet and the Farrier. We are a non- profit
Sanctuary, and all donations are tax deductible to you. Anyone
needing a receipt at tax time need only contact us. I maintain all
records of donations. Again, we thank you for your support and
help over the years and please know without your help, this Sanctuary
would not continue to operate.
Catherine (Kitty) Sutphin.
