Funds Desperately NEEDED!
Due to our ever-present costs of keeping our wonderful sanctuary running, which includes feed for the animals and medical / veterinary costs, we are in constant need of funds.

We are so thankful to those kind people that make donations and support the animals at the sanctuary.  Without you, we could not continue our good work.

Sonny is a retired horse from an out of state police department. Sonny has a special need because he is allergic to hay. This is commonly known as heaves or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  The allergic reaction creates excess mucus in the lungs making very little air space. At some time prior to coming to the Sanctuary, he got into some molded hay which caused a severe allergic reaction and resulted in this disease (COPD).

The Horse Sanctuary resides on a horse farm in Rocky Mount, Virginia.  We provide a home for abused, neglected, retired and elderly equine.  See new photos of some of the horse residents and read about their rescues or exciting history leading up to their retirement at Dream Catcher Farm.
Calisto (left) retired at the sanctuary after a severe injury resulting in a bowed tendon.  He and our other horse residents receive tender loving care, regular ferrier visits and veterinary care.

Some time in January of 2000, Calisto suffered a severe injury where he apparently stepped in a hole. The resulting injury was due to a severely bowed tendon with contraction and required stall rest for many weeks.Calisto now walks with a distingue limp and he must wear a special shoe to assist in redirecting the weight on his leg. His shoe has a toe extension on it which he must wear all the time. Calisto was brought to Dream Catcher Farm Horse Sanctuary in October of 2001 after the farm was thoroughly checked out by a local vet and approved for the horse's retirement. He came from a loving family in Maryland who did extensive searching of Rescue organizations before deciding on this horse sanctuary.
